- (continued from previous page)went along together until they came to the king's palace. The king had a daughter who was supposed to be the best runner i the world. Any one that could run as fast as she could marry her. The men that came to the king's palace said he would try run with her, but when they were ready to start he said he felt sick but that he would let Quick as Thought run instead of him.
Quick as Thought wom the race and then the other man had the king's daughter to marry. The king did not like this so he made a bargain with the man to give as much gold as anyone he liked to say could carry. The man said that he would like Strong Back to carry it. Then the king's servants began to heap the gold on his back and they had to put all the gold in the palace on his back before he had a load. Then they set off but they had not gone far when the king got sorry about all the gold he gave away so he sent an army of soldiers after the other men to take the gold off them. Hares Ear was listening to this and he told the other men to be ready.(continues on next page)- Collector
