There was one old school in Lonagh, and another in the next townland namely Tullynacross. These schools were built of mud. They used lumps of turf bank, cut out and dried for seats. The teachers got paid by the children's parents.
They used quills of feathers for writing pens. The teachers often times could only stay a month at a time in those schools, for fear of the cruel laws of the government. They could speak Irish fluently then.
