- (continued from previous page)this is also done. Before cups first came into use in this district, there were small vessels called noggins used instead of them. These were made from American oak and iron hoops. Tin porringers were also used in former times.
In olden times people did not eat late at night. Bread was not eaten very often in former times, and in some places flour was never used except at Christmas.
Tea was also used with the bread at Christmas, and no other time of the year. Boxty bread was eaten at certain times such as on Holloween Night, and other feast days.
Broosey was eaten in former times, especially in the Winter time, adn while the potatoes were being dug. Until about fifty years ago the potatoes were not boiled. They were roasted in a large fire. Broosey was supposed to be the best meal that the people received each day. Butter was also used with it. This food was eaten int he evening when the people had their work finished.- Collector
