- (continued from previous page)lived in this parish. He heard that if he brought a pack of cards in his pocket to Mass and held up the ace of hearts at the Elevation he would win every thing he played for. He did so and when the priest was at the Elevation he held up the ace of hearts. Immediately he was stricken Hind and never recovered his eyesight.
A story is often told of a priest named Father McSharry. He was not on friendly terms with a certain rich man in the parish. One day he was riding his horse along the road and this man came out of his house and through disrespect put out his tongue at the priest. When the priest passed he found that he could not get in his tongue and it was only when the priest was persuaded to go back and read over him that he got his tongue back to its proper place.- Collector
