“There used to be a hare in Foinsinn near Ballygar, Co. Galway in olden times.”
(continued from previous page)When the man that owned the hound saw that he went to the house to get the hare. But when he went in he saw an old grey woman sitting down on a straw mat beside the fire. He inquired if she saw the hare but the woman said she did not. (The huntsman said the hare was in the house somewhere but the woman said she did not). The huntsman said the hare was in the house somewhere but the woman replied and told him to search the house. He searched the house all over but could not find the hare. The huntsman insisted that the hare was in the house and that it must be under the woman. He told her to get up but the woman would not stir. When she (wanted) would not stir he caught her by the arm and lifted her up and found that there was blood on the mat where the woman was sitting. He knew then that the must be a witch and so he left it at that. She was called ever after that " ? Foinsinn"- Collector
