    so hard and tough that the average stone or thorn would not hurt them. There is a story told about Mike Doherty and Pat Flynn, that both of them walked a hundred feet of live cinders without no ill effects; of course those men were known as the two with the hardest feet in the district where they lived, and they did it on a "dare". According to the oldest tradition and the latest modern science the best thing for keeping the feet in perfect condition is the daily use of soap and water.
