Leather was not known to be made in this district for clogs or shoes. The leather used by the shoemaker that is steeped in water is good for a horse with a sore breast, that the harness would strip under a saddle or collar.

   In former times people did not wear shoes until they were ten and twelve years. Children at the present time go barefoot in Summer. The people in olden times never washed their feet in warm water, they always washed them in a river or pond. People never
