  1. In the year 1916 there was a very heavy snowstorm around the village of Riverstown. It lasted three days and the people could not get out of their houses. During one of these days there was a funeral and the people had to go in front of it to clear away the snow.
    It was a very bad snowstorm as sledges had to be brought into use. In the parish of Riverstown the "Big Wind" of 1829 did not do much harm. Sheep and cattle were lost and trees were felled causing much damage as carts and traps could not pass.
