- One of the landlords that ruled over the lands of Ardvarney was a man named Brinkley. He was not too hard on the people.
One time he built a mill and when he could not pay the whole amount of money for it he fled to another country leaving his house after him, His estate was afterwards divided.
A man named Dodd was landlord of Ardagh. He was a very cross man and if he did not get the money for the land the time he wanted it he would evict the inhabitants of that house.
One day his son went into the monastery in Ardagh and when he saw the nice mutton which the monks had, he asked what sheep they got it from. The monks said it was from the monastery sheep which were fed on their own land. When he went home he told his father who had evicted(continues on next page)- Collector
