- Fairy forts
Long ago it was said there were fairies in every district. It was said they lived in the old forts. These forts are often called “Lios”, “Rath”, or “fort”. It is said there were lights often seen on these old forts. The people believed that it was the fairies who had these lights, and that they used to be singing and dancing on the forts. Long ago it was said that the fairies often led people astray and that they brought people away, and that they let them back after some time. People would be very much afraid in passing these forts and never went near them.
In Carnaree there is a fort known as “Dún hill”. Lights were often seen by people passing by this(continues on next page)- Collector
