  1. The one holy well I know of is situated in Kilfree and the story told of it is the following.
    Once upon a time there was a house near the well and there was a servant girl working there. One day she came to the well with a bucket and she saw a fish in the well.
    She took up the fish and brought it home and when she arrived at the house the mistress was not in. She put the fish on the fire to cook. She had not the fish long on the fire until the mistress came in and made the girl take up the fish and leave it at the well again.
    That well is being drained now and brought down by pipes to the village of Gurteen. During the summer time all the old women and girls of the district make stations at the well. They always leave some little statue or a nice bunch of flowers. There are a big pile of stones and a lot of big trees at it and it is on that
