present Church(i.e.one prior to 1924)from Henry Mitchell Tydavnet. The contractor for the building was Patrick Mc Nally of Mullyera and while the church was being built Mitchell gave the use of his barn for Mass on Sundays and Holidays.
The Church was built about 1789.The new church was built incorporating the old one in 1924,finished in 1926.When the roof was taken off the old one to raise the walls and make it into uniformity with the new portion,it was remarkable to see the size of the old slates, some of them almost 3feet X 3 1/2feet.They were in perfect condition and had been fastened by oak pegs(instead of nails). The pegs too were in perfect condition-a remarkable tribute to the skills of the old craftsmen of over a hundred years ago.So today a magnificent structure stands in memory of St.Dympna, where her name and virtues are ever revered.
