- (continued from previous page)wholesome. They used to put a cross on top of the cake. There was a cross always put on the "Yellow Buck". This was made by pouring boiling water on pure yellow meal. It was then kneaded and made into a cake. This was baked on a griddle. It was eaten with sour milk. It had to be cut into quarters as it was not easy to turn it. Sometimes they used to make bread of wheaten flour. Before the bread was made the wheat had to be ground with a quern and made into flour.
