- (continued from previous page)door when they close. There is one fireplace and one huge bellows within. While the bellows does not at first seem such a simple affair, it is only an ordinary bellows worked by means of a wooden lever and chains.
The anvil, sledge, hammer, vice, pliers, rasp, chisel, threading-machine, punch and tongs are all used in this forge. While it is chiefly shoes the Smith manufactures, he repairs harrows ploughs and other farm implements.
It is in the open outside the doorway of his forge, that portion of the work, such as the binding of wheels, is done. In places where they derelict forges once stood. For example in olden times Dan Kennedy of Owning was held to be an adept at his trade.- Collector
