  1. There was and old school at Maggie Conway's, Upper Carrenroe, where Alice Mrphy lives now. The Teacher who was teaching there was Master Conway. The subjects that were taught were reading, writing and arithemtic. The pupils used to write on slates or boards. The first National School was opened in The Rower about one hundred years ago, near where the Catholic Church now stands. Only a wall of it remains now
