- Padraic Malay was an old man who worked at Walshe's in Derrynahinch.
He decided not to spend his wages but to hide it. He used to cut a little piece out of a tree and put shillings in it and several ones were found in an oak tree around here.
Inside this gate he used to hide some money and take it out from time to time. A shore runs beside this gate and one Padraic hid in it to see would anyone be looking for his money.
A long stone stands up at the end of the shore and it frightens people passing by at night, and that is why Padraic put it there so as no one would come near the gate.
The gate got its name from Padraic.- Collector
