from the houses of the rich people. On one occasion when closely pursued by police-men he was supposed to have buried a large amount of gold treasure in "Lac na Garra" near Brownsbarn Ridge about two miles from Inistioge at the root of a large tree. He could see the tree from Kilmacshane on the far side and when he went across he could not find it. It is supposed to remain there to the present day.
    "A brace of loaded pistols,
    he carried night and day.
He never robbed a poor man
    upon the Kings highway.
But when he'd taken from the rich
    like Turpin and black Bess.
    He always did divide it
    with the widow in distress."
