Here stood a castle which belonged to the Ormonde family till 1700 during the latter end of the 17th & during he 18th century it was occupied by the Purcell family3. Cool Craheen
Here was a parish church dedicated to St Nicholas This chapel was 40 feet long 23½ ft wide & the walls were 2 ft 8 ins thick In the centre of side wall is a carved stone It had a Gothic doorway 5½ feet high & 3 ft wide In an enclosure may be seen the tombs of the Murphy family formerly of Gragara. The building dates from the 13th century [?] Purcell family, bearing coats of arms. In Conahy Parish Church may be seen the square cut stone base and circular shaft of Coolcraheen Baptismal font which wa removed to there by Canon Hogan P.P.
At Hally's in Swifisheath there is a 5 acre field called "Reilig". Human skulls and bones have been frequently dug up here. A wooden box was unearthed here in 1810 containing a cannon ball 7 lbs in weight. Part of Swiftsheath is called Baún Robineíd (Robinet).4. Shanganna.
Meaning the land of the ants. This townsland formerly belonged to the Ormonde family but was later the propert of the Bryan family. There was a castle near(continues on next page)
