    the field. The ball was usually a lump of wood shaped like a ball. There was no particular dress worn at these matches as everyone knew the players. When the curate was transferred and the hurleys got broken the game was given up but within the last few years it is being revived. Football was always the most popular of all the games played in this locality. About thirty years ago each school had its football team and the schools played one another. Sometimes a big match was played in the castle garden Boyle. A charge of sixpence was made on the gate. The local band escorted the teams to the field and there was great excitement. Stands were put up on the evening before and the basket women did a roaring trade selling sweets, oranges, apples, and grand sugar-stick called "Peggy's leg". Sunday was chosen
