    for the match. Each team wore a particular colour of jersey and when a goal or point was scored there was great cheering. The captain of the successful team was chaired from the field; a procession was formed and the band played the victors through the town. Sometimes it ended in a fight when goals were disputed and much ill feeling was caused between the teams. A very popular game in the parish of Boyle was handball. There is a splendid alley in the town called Casey's Alley and the town and country boys spend many a pleasant hour there. An All-Ireland champion Paddy Perry first played in this alley and many others have won matches with neighbouring counties. Within the last few years some great games have been played there.
