  1. Beggars call to houses all over this place. Its the same persons call - but now and then at big intervals strangers call. The names of the Regular callers to this district are as follows:-

    Dan Daly Native Muintear Mháire (west of Bantry) He carries a fiddle and fishing rod. Keeps Fishing hooks tied to his whiskers to prevent lads from pulling it. I have seen the hooks on his whiskers.

    Tom Malone Native of ... Not Known & "would not tell."

    Tom Clannan .(America) Does little begging but lodges in farmer's houses

    "Crookstown" Native of Crookstown Co Cork

    "Jack the Sweep" native of Cork City. Sweeps & begs.

    "Cóirdin" (Always wears a córd as belt)

    Paddy McMahon. (Carries/Takes huge [?] filled with paper He picks up each and every old scrap of paper which he sees No body seems to know why.

    "Annie Mooney". - (Strong woman feared by all households & often spends a week in Jaol.

    Mary Hayes. She rents a little house in a village near by and begs the rent - "She is best of the lot"
