One day he chanced to come through our parish and passing through Tubberdan came on to Kellybrook, and so delighted was he with the place, for its quiet beauty and murmuring streams, that he declared he would have a castle built there, so that he could spend part of the year at least at peace in this retreat. Accordingly, he gave orders that much of his precious jewels and gold would be transferred to here, and buried away in safety out of the reach of plunderers and foreign invaders.
This was done, but before the castle which he planned could be built, he himself was killed in a battle, and his jewels were left hidden under this mound in Kellybrook, and there they remain to the present day.
