- The men sheared the wool off the sheep in Summer. The women put rape oil on it about one pint to five pounds of wool. When they had it well oiled they carded it making small rolls. Afterwards they spun it into thread. Women got up early in the morning and had a lot of spinning done before the rest of the house-hold were up.
Then they brought the thread to a weaver who wove it in blankets and flannel for making underclothing for the winter. I do not know whether there was any weaver in this district but there were two in the parish of Cam about six miles away. These weavers were called Willie Gately and John Gaffney.
There are no weavers now but some women spin wool for making socks for the men, They spin it in the same way as (they) it was spun for the flannel making except that they spin two threads together.- Collector
