    the fairies. On May day the farmers do not till the soil or work horses. They build walls and fence and enclose fields for meadow.
    On St. Bridgets Eve crosses are still made of straw and put up over the door and in the sheds as was the custom in olden times.
    On Shrove Tuesday the day before Ash Wednesday pan-cakes are made.
    On Novembers Eve it was the custom to make cally (colcannon) and eat it. They left a plate of "cally" and a spoon in it in the cupboard for fairies to eat if they were hungry.
