- Travelling folk call to our home such as Tinkers, Gipsies, Pedlars and Beggars.
Tinkers a homeless wandering cal are numerous but not so numerous now as in years ago. They travel from place to place in carts and sell tin articles such as cans and saucepans. they put bottoms in cans and fix pots. the women-folk beg food such as bread, flour bacon, cabbage, tea, milk and potatoes. The men folk beg hay straw, horse-hair and feathers. they pitch their tents in a well chosen spot by the side of a byroad usually in the shade of a spreading tree.
The tinkers who visit our district are not poor. the best known families are:- Stephens, Nevins, Quinns, Greens, Joyces and Nolans.
