    though, and into the other hole a wooden peg was fitted. This peg served for a handle and the top stone was turned around on the bottom stone so the grain was crushed between the two stones and the crushed grain came out around the edge of the bottom stone.
    They had a cake long ago called Potato Cake, and these are the ingredients that were used in making it. They got boiled potatoes and crushed with their hands. Flour, a pinch of soda and salt were mixed up with them in a dish and some sour milk was poured in. When it was mixed up it was baked in the bastable or on the griddle.
    They also had Oaten-meal Cake and this is how it was made. They got ground oaten-meal and then put in flour, a pinch of soda and salt and mixed them all up in a dish and poured some butter milk in, to soften the dough.
