    When the cake was made it was baked in the bastable. They had White Bread too and it was made the same way as the white bread today.
    They also had Stampy Bread long ago and this is how it was made. First of all they got a half stone of potatoes and washed them and put them into a bag and put a heavy stone on the top of the bag and pressed the stone down on the bag and in this way they squeezed the water out of the potatoes. Then they put the potatoes into a dish and mixed flour, a pinch of soda and salt with them and poured some butter milk in, and mixed them all up in a dish. When the cake was made it was baked in the bastable. When baked, it was brownish in colour. They would need four or five cakes for a family of nine. The cakes were cut into slices and honey or butter was spread on them.
