- (continued from previous page)A shilling was called a "bob", a sixpence was called a "tanner", a threepennybit was called a "copper". A halfpenny was called a "make", a fourpennybit was called a "groat", a pound wad called a quid, a sovereign was called a "yellow boy", a five shilling bit was called a "crown". The farthing, the five shilling bit, the fourpennybit, the sovereign and the half-sovereign are gone out of use now. The farthings were plentiful fifty years ago.
