- The Thatching Needle was made from an iron bar about half-an-inch thick. It measures about thirty-six inches. In the upper end is a ring in which the handle fitted.The needle was used to sew thatch with a súgán or with a hempen rope
- Sketch of a castróir, an awl-like instrument with two stout spikes, which was used to "ring" pigs.These rings were made by the smith and were shaped like this:-When the ring was inserted the castóir was used to turn up the straight end.
