  1. The landlord of Gurth was James Hunt of Mallow. He was looked upon as a bad landlord because evictions took place. A family named Nagles were once evicted and the land was given to Sheas. The evicted people went to America.
The landlord let the land to a man named Fitzgerald who sub let it again to the farmers. The landlord's agent was Walter Thornhill & Sons, South Mall, Cork. The landlord had a right to shoot and hunt over the townland. Our farm was purchased under the Balfour Act in the year 1891.
