The names of our fields are the '' gate field,'' the coarse field, ''the haggare,'' '' the fine field'' and the coarse field.
The '' gate field'' was so called because there was a gate getting into it.
The '' coarse field'' is so called because the hay that grows in it is coarse.
The '' haggard '' is so called because it is a small field. - My farm is situated in the town land of Lyreneague. Lyreneague was so called because deer were very plentiful there long ago.
The townland is divided into farms and the farms are divided into tillage fields, meadows and feeding fields.
Everybody has names in their fields. The names of our fields are, the '' blackmeadow,'' the cross meadow,'' the '' high-field, the '' kiln field'' and the ''ray.''
The '' fine meadow was so called because very fine hay grow on it.
The '' black meadow'' was so called because it has very black surface.(continues on next page)
