  1. Old Houses
    Most of the houses in former times were thatched; and they had mud walls, and mud floors, in this district in the parish of Kanturk, barony of Duhallow, County Cork.
    The wealthy people had their houses made of stones and mortar.
    The houses in former times had a bed in the kitchen. This bed was called a "settle bed".
    The fireplace was always against the gable wall. Half-doors are common in this district in the parish of Kanturk, barony of Duhallow, County Cork at the present time; and were common formerly.
