- (3) There is an old ruin called the "Old Court" at Banteer Road, Kanturk. It is nearly a mile from Kanturk Post Office, It was built by Mc. Carthy Mór about three hundred and seventy eight years ago. He was a great chieftain in this locality. Queen Elizabeth prevented it from being roofed, because she thought it would be too strong a fortress in the hands of the Irish rebels. It was to be roofed with glass.
