My great grandfather knew Irish but it was not taught in the school. Reading, writing & Arithmetic were taught. Though the teacher favoured Irish it was not taught.

- It is said that there was a "Hedge School" in Delliga, Milford & that Mr. Mc. Loughlin was teacher. He was not a native but was a cousin of the Barry's, Milford. Schools were not held in any farmers' houses here. The teachers were paid a penny a week. Writing was done on slates. No blackboards were used.
