- In the year 1848 a "Hedge School was held in Bunmona, Milford. Mr. John Creagh was the teacher. He taught in the open-air in summer and in farmers' houses in the winter. Irish was not taught.
- The Monabricka "Hedge" school was on the side of the road in the townland of Monabricka, Milford. It was in a small, thatched house. The teacher, Mr. Creagh, was a native of Milford & he owned the house in which the school was held. He taught English & history. The children were seated on chairs. Irish was not taught & it was not popular. He taught in the school every other week.
- Mr. John Watson Milford, Ráth Luirc remembers Mr. Creagh who taught in the Monabricka "Hedge-School". Mr. Creagh was father-in-law to Mr. Pat Hennigan, Monabricka, Milford, Ráth Luirc. Additional information will be forwarded in a few days. Mr. Watson's father was taught by Mr. Creagh.
