  1. For the past twenty five years the travelling people of this country have changed their ways, as to remaining in the houses of farmer's, and other persons, for a night or two, and at present any person can see how these travelling people are fixed in spring cars, are a covered waggon, which they use as a house to sleep and eat in. A number of those people travel together, and put up in a sheltered part of the roadside, and are sure to be in the midst of large farmers, where they cane be sure of milk and potatoes, and other vegetables. The tinkers often possess a share of money, as they buy horses for a low price, and ponies, and donkeys also. The names of the tinkers, who come to our town often are the Sheridan's, Ryan;'s Coffey's and Quilligans.
