- (continued from previous page)Mr. Quin's and it is said to be trunked with stones much further on. It is said that they meant to connect it with the new line from Kilfinny Cross to Ballingarry, but I suppose they ran short of money at that time and so could not go any further with the scheme. The same applied to several other old by roads of its kind, such as the little road from Kilfinny village to Ballinakill burial ground. This road was to come out when finished somewhere about Carrigeen but that road also was never finished. All the by roads are still used as there are several avenues or passages leading into farmers houses from them.The by roads are not lonely to travel at the present day as there are several lovely cottages built at the side of each of them.
It is said that there were several roads made during the famine period which gave employment to poor people. Many a poor man had to give up work in the middle of the day as they(continues on next page)- Informant
