    broken bottle on St. Martin's eve and my mother killed no hen or goose that evening because they said my blood would do to honour St. Martin. I was about 7 years old then.

  2. A fort.
    There is a fort about three miles from the village of Adare about which I hear a lot.
    It is said that there was a man coming from a fair in Rathkeale and he was anxious to know what the fort was like and went in. He found it surrounded by big trees. He rooted in the earth with his stick and saw something very bright. he dug deeper to find a lot of shining gold. He took some of it and returned home.
