  2. Old Crafts.
    Adare in the past was noted for its useful crafts such as candle-making, making of wicker chairs, cradles, baskets. Candles were made of tallow or fat melted down in a cauldron rolled with a taper inserted and left overnight to harden.
    About half a century ago there lived in the house we live in at present a man called Carl Weiz who was a German. He fashioned handsome chairs of dried sallies and also cradles and baskets with the help of his son Abdul who gathered the sallies for him.
