    the Havard College expedition U.S.A. these moats are supposed to be about two thousand years old. There are other stories afloat that the Danes were responsible for building them, but there are no facts in history to prove that they were built by them. The Danes were in Ireland up to the year 1014 when they were beaten and completely routed at the battle of Clontarf.
