The Mountshannon was burned by the Irish Republic in 1922.
Our hay was burned by the black and tans in 1920. The conflagrations was seen by neighbours, who ran to quench it and shots were fired over their heads by the tans from Thornfield wood where they went after setting fire to the hay.
The neighbours did not heed their shots, they quenched the fire but conciderable damage was done to the hay as an amount of it was burned. Lord Masseys Mansion in Hermitage Castleconnell was burned by the Irish Republic in 1922.(continues on next page)- Collector
