    The children divide into two groups. They stand in lines facing each other. They walk in and out towards each other singing:-
    1. "Here we come gathering nuts in May, Nuts in May, nuts in May.
    Here we come gathering nuts in May, On a cold and frosty morning."
    2. The other side asks:-
    Who do you want for nuts in May (3)
    Who do you want for nuts in May, On a cold and frosty morning.
    1. The others reply "We want Mary Ryan for nuts in may" etc
    2. "Who will you send to take her away (3)
    Who will you send to take her away on a cold and frosty morning.
    1. We'll send Joan O'Brien to take her away (3)
    We'll send Joan O'Brien to take her away on a cold and frosty morning".
    2. "Very well, very well so you may, so you may, so you may
    Very well, very well so you may, so you may, so you may On a cold and frost morning".
    The two girls mentioned would stand out and try to pull one another across a stone or stick. Which side wins both have to go to that side and at the end both sides have a tug o'war."
