  1. Composed by Martin Ryan , Templetuohy
    Age 49
    Where Sean O Dwyer and Desmond fought
    Had baffled all their foes ,
    Where Sullivan a shelter sought ,
    When loaded down with woes.
    Where Keating preached , and taught and wrote,
    In the ancient Gaelic tongue
    Where rath and ruin and verdant moat
    Far o'er it bosom flung .
    'Tis Aherlow's wild glen and yet it shelters not a few,
    Of those who scorned bribr and thret
    And to their land held true ;
    Mulcahy's soldiers tracked then therein;
    Once more, the lonely Glen
    Re-echoes to the rifles peal
    And cries of dying men .
    Too long , too well , brace Lacy fought
    And bursting through outside ,
    With empty guns clutched in his hand ,
    The Gallant soldier died.
