- This is a very old house and it is the oldest house on the road.
My grandfather came into this house in about the year 1876. Before he came into it there lived people in it named Byrnes and Taylors. When Byrnes lived in it the hill was always called Byrne's Hill.
When my grandfather lived in it, it was a lot different from what it is now. It had a clay floor in the kitchen and all the rooms. The rafters could be seen inside, and it had a thatched roof. The beams inside were coloured black.
The windows were very small and also very small little panes. They all opened like a door, and there was only one window in the kitchen. All the walls were white - washed. There was no stairs but a loft, and a ladder going up to it. The fire was on the hearth, but there was no blower, only a hand bellows.
In one of the rooms there was a bed with a roof. It was made of wood and it was boarded all around. Most of the outside houses were thatched.- Collector
