- Some years ago the tinker tribe was very numerous. They consisted of the bartys, baseys and Faulkrners. They were as well equipped at that time as they are now.
At that time they used to walk from one end of the country to the other, but nowadays they have asses and carts and others have caravans.
When they come to the houses they ask for four, potatoes, meat, tea and the men ask for horsehair. Some of them make saucepans and tin cans and repair umbrellas. When they have sold these they go to public houses and drink enough.- Collector
