  1. (continued from previous page)
"You're getting the finest girl in the country."
"Well, you know, Mrs Callan", replied Jemmy, "she's a bit gross."
A few days later he said to his best man,
"James, your mother was right. My wife is a fine woman but -her beauty is the beauty of the mind!"
At Christmas time, 1911, the "Doctor" gave a small party to which he invited his best man who at the time was a member of the Temperance Sodality, but he broke his pledge at the "Doctor's" party. Fr Harmon, the Curate (now Canon Harmon, Ardee), visited the Doctor and rated him on his conduct in leading a sheep away from the fold. Having no case the Doctor acted on the legal mascim of abusing the other side. In assumed indignation he addressed Fr. Harmon:
"Tyrannous clergy like you, Father Harmon, that brought about the Reformation!"l
