- There was an old woman who lived in the Commons. She owned a big black cat. The cat was never out of mischief. The old woman decided to get rid of it. But being very fond of it she did not like to kill it.
She put it in a basket and gave it to a passing breadman, who was going to Kilmessan. She told him to bring it far away and let it loose, so that it would not find its way back.
When the driver came to Bective bridge he threw the basket containing the cat into the River Boyne.
When the old woman arose next morning the cat was in the kitchen.- Collector
