- People in olden times used to eat three meals a day. They were breakfast dinner and supper. These meals consisted of potatoes and buttermilk and sometimes oaten bread. They used very little tea as it was too dear. A pound of tea at that time cost ten shillings to fourteen shillings and oftentimes more. Some people could afford to buy a pound of tea at Christmas. During the famine times a boiler belonging to a man near Delvin at the present time was filled with stirabout and brought down to the workhouse and each person would get a certain amount, People sat around a table in the centre of the floor.
