- Forge Work.
Forge work is still done in Delvin. Spades, gates, fire cranes, & c. are made. The iron is placed in the fire and left there until it is red hot. It is removed from the fire with a large iron tongs, and placed on an iron anvil, and beaten into shape with a large iron hammer. The fire of charcoal is blown with a huge bellows.Spinning and Weaving
About fifty or sixty years ago spinning was done by Mrs Carley Fossa Ballyhealy. The wool was taken off the sheep and teased or cleaned until all the dirt or lumps were gone. It was then oiled and spun on the spinning wheel.(continues on next page)- Collector
