    money to pay for goods, he would work for the owner of the shop for some time in exchange for the goods.
    When a person gets goods, and does not pay for them it is customary to say they were got on "tick".
    It was considered unlucky to transact business on Sunday.
    The markets were held in the market-square in olden times, and they are held there still.
    Hucksters and pedlars used to visit this district in olden times. There were dealers in feathers and rags and they come still.
    The various coins are called a ha'penny, penny, sixpenny bit or 'tanner', shilling or 'bob', two shilling bit, half-crown, half-sovereign, and sovereign. Half-sovereigns and sovereigns are gone out of use.
